A. Asking someone to say something again

We ask someone to repeat when we can’t hear what the person
says.The expressions are given below:

Informal : What was that?
Sorry.
What did you say?
Sorry I didn’t hear you.

Neutral : I’m sorry, what did you say?
I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear what you said.
Pardon?

Formal : I beg your pardon.
I’m sorry, would you mind repeating the word
(please)?
I’m sorry, could I ask you to repeat the word / sentence
(please)?

B. Asking for help

Informal &
Neutral : Help me, please.
Can you help me?
Would / Could you help me?

Formal : I’m sorry to bother you, but ……..
Would you mind ………………
I wonder if you could …………
I’d be grateful if you could …………..
