stock exchange market : a place where parts of the
ownership of companies are
bought and sold
shot up : rose or climbed high
hit an all-time high : reached a peak that was never
reached before
shares : the equal parts into which
the ownership of a com pany is
divided and which can be bought
by members o f the public
bonds : official papers given by a
company to show that one has
lent them money which will be
paid back at an interest rate that
will not change
bullish : when people think that market
prices will continue to rise, and
hold back the shares
Wall Street : the financial street in New York,
where the US stock market
is situated
bearish : when people think that market
prices will continue to fall, and sell
their shares
